Make the State Team

Personal:

When I was 6 years old, I started playing soccer. I thought soccer was going to be my life, and after 5 years of rec soccer, I joined the travel team. I played on a travel soccer team for four years. All the coach told me was that I was amazing at running up and down the field but my ball control skills were horrific. We used to do runs as a team (3-4 miles) and I loved it. My old babysitter was on the varsity and state cross country team. Every day she would try and persuade me to run xc. I told her I would never run and I hated running. Then one day, my mom signed me up for the cross country team. I thought it was the worst day of my life, until I realize now that it is the best decision my mom has ever made. I quit soccer completely because I stunk at it, and I was so much better at running. Since then, running is my life, and I do not know what I would do without it.

Freshman year xc: I was pretty mediocre. Not the best season, my best PR was 21:06. I stayed injury free but had never learned correct running form.

Freshman year indoor track: I went to practice every day. I competed in every race, and was racing and practicing super well. I even ran 2 events at indoor states. I ran in the 4x8 and the 1200 leg of the DMR.

Freshman year outdoor track: I was injured the whole time due to bad running form. I relearned how to run the proper way. I had a inflamed iliac crest (right hip). I was out all of track. It was by far one of the worst days of my life when the doctor told me I would not be able to run in outdoor track.

Sophomore year xc: I was on varisty B. This was my best year running wise, and made Top 10 on my team. Competed well until the end of the season when the temperature started turning weirdly hot.

Sophomore year track: I got injured. Again. I went to the doctor to get an MRI. My legs had changed for the worse since last year when I had gotten an MRI. I am now banned from doing indoor track because that is what has caused these past injuries. The indoor track we run on hurt me, and my body doesn't react well with hardwood floors. I had a inflamed shin. I was out for three months and could only swim.

Since these past two injuries, I am committed to staying on track (no pun intended) and gearing up for cross country season.

I am a junior at Saline High School. I love running, playing violin, and volunteering.

First day back at practice in two weeks. It was rough, 50 minute run with 2x8 min tempo dropped in. It felt pretty nice being able to run with the team. Sign up for xc started today, which is super exciting. The workout was prety difficult, it was a high of 80 degrees with high humidity. We ran on grass for the tempos, and ran down to Mill Pond. Ready for a slight recovery day tomorrow. Then I came home, went to my Invisalign appointment, and did PT exercises. for both my hips and ankle/shin.

Nice recovery day with some strides at the end. It was a pretty basic run, and felt nice. We took an ice bath afterwards.

We headed down to Mill Pond today and did 5 road hills, no stops, and tempoed around the little loop. Then we did 2 half hills and I killed it. Love half hills, especially when the weather is nice. After practice I did yoga, which felt amazing<3

First run in Tennessee today. Took it super easy. I had to run for three miles up a hill before it leveled off, then ran downhill the way back. It was pretty steep too, so I took a few breaks cause I am not very used to that. Weather was too hot and muggy for my taste, but made the most of that run.

Did a nice run today up in the mountains in Tennessee, which made breathing more difficult. I ended up getting chased by a deer in the middle of my run, which was super scary, and I also saw a few other wild animals. It was cool, and very humid. I started sprinting when I was getting chased and kept going for another mile cause I was feeling good. Then I just finished off my loop and headed back.

Great run today, dropped the tempos down to low 7s. 55 minute run with 2x6 minutes of tempo dropped in. Temperature was nice, which is unusual, and had a good run, besides being pushed off the path. I came home and did all of my PT exercises and prehab. I am feeling super productive, and am going to finish everything on my to do list.

Felt super easy, was a recovery run and ended up going at about a 9 minute pace. It was a super nice time, but very hot. I could breathe, but I just got super sweaty. Afterwards I did a ton of stretching to make sure I was loose for tomorrows super difficult workout. Did not do ice bath today.

Did one of my best workouts ever today. Started with the usual warm up but ended up doing a little extra. Did boxes and lunges, then started off with our first two mile tempo. I went out a bit too fast, 6:15, and ended up dropping back to around 6:45ish. Finished at 13:40. Ended up right where I wanted to be in the pack, and cranked it out. Then we took a short break and did 4 800s. First one was good, but my legs cramped up a ton and got super tight. Then I took one off so I wasn't hurting as bad. I started the third one off at a medium pace, then sped up. A girl on my team tried to pass me, but I ended up going with her and we raced the last one. She got pissed at me, but whatever. Then I stretched, put my compression socks on for the rest of the day, and cherished one of the best days of my whole summer.

One of the hottest days of the summer, and was a recovery run. No shade the whole time. It was a fast recovery run since the girls in the front sped up, but whatever. Took an ice bath after, and did PT exercises.

Did a nice run today at Mill Pond. Started off slower with Alexa, then sped up. Did 3 loops, tempo into the hill, up the hill, recovery, then turn around and tempo back to the top of the hill. I ekpt up and passed two girls during the last loop. I have enver felt so good, and am ready to take on the time trial on friday.

Started off with the usual warm up, then jumped into some flying 30s. Did 5 of these, a tad slower with better form, and then took off the spikes and put my New Balances back on. The first set of 400s was pretty good. I averaged 92 around the first set. Will update once I have my times. Felt good, especially with the three minute tempo at the end of the workout. Later went to the cold tub, which was not very cold today.

Nice easy run today with some strides to finish off the run. Ran with Nikki and just chatted, was a great run. Afterward went to the weight room and did weights with the team. Then later today, did PT and AFS exercises. Wore my compression socks for about six hours. I can't wait for the season.

We did a distance run today. It was super hot and humid. We went at sub 8 (around 7:50) pace on the way out. Stopped for water since there was no shade on the path. Then we turned around, took a short break, and headed back. Slowed down to 8:15 pace, and then with 6 minutes left, sped up to 7:30 and held out. The heat definitely prepared me for the time trial. Went to yoga afterwards, was one of the best classes I have ever taken,

Did a recovery run today with 3 90 second tempos. Did not feel too good. I'm so nervous for the time trial tomorrow. I am hoping for top five, and feel like it is within sight. Let's go.
