Make the State Team

Personal:

When I was 6 years old, I started playing soccer. I thought soccer was going to be my life, and after 5 years of rec soccer, I joined the travel team. I played on a travel soccer team for four years. All the coach told me was that I was amazing at running up and down the field but my ball control skills were horrific. We used to do runs as a team (3-4 miles) and I loved it. My old babysitter was on the varsity and state cross country team. Every day she would try and persuade me to run xc. I told her I would never run and I hated running. Then one day, my mom signed me up for the cross country team. I thought it was the worst day of my life, until I realize now that it is the best decision my mom has ever made. I quit soccer completely because I stunk at it, and I was so much better at running. Since then, running is my life, and I do not know what I would do without it.

Freshman year xc: I was pretty mediocre. Not the best season, my best PR was 21:06. I stayed injury free but had never learned correct running form.

Freshman year indoor track: I went to practice every day. I competed in every race, and was racing and practicing super well. I even ran 2 events at indoor states. I ran in the 4x8 and the 1200 leg of the DMR.

Freshman year outdoor track: I was injured the whole time due to bad running form. I relearned how to run the proper way. I had a inflamed iliac crest (right hip). I was out all of track. It was by far one of the worst days of my life when the doctor told me I would not be able to run in outdoor track.

Sophomore year xc: I was on varisty B. This was my best year running wise, and made Top 10 on my team. Competed well until the end of the season when the temperature started turning weirdly hot.

Sophomore year track: I got injured. Again. I went to the doctor to get an MRI. My legs had changed for the worse since last year when I had gotten an MRI. I am now banned from doing indoor track because that is what has caused these past injuries. The indoor track we run on hurt me, and my body doesn't react well with hardwood floors. I had a inflamed shin. I was out for three months and could only swim.

Since these past two injuries, I am committed to staying on track (no pun intended) and gearing up for cross country season.

I am a junior at Saline High School. I love running, playing violin, and volunteering.

Felt great today again. Kept up with the group on the second 5 min tempo. Ended up going 6:20...so yeahhhhh. We felt super strong as a group today. I can't wait for this season. Hoping my injuries stay away. Also have been doing my PT exercises for my hip and shin religiously every other day. Doing strength training 3 days a week. Let's hope for the best.

Ran a great workout today. Was supposed to do an easy recovery 3 miles, but ended up doing a little more than that. I probably could've run for 4 more miles. It was so nice, cloudy, and absolutley perfect.

Off day for running, but I went to AFS and did my weight lifting workout.

Our workout today was 55 minutes with 2x6 minutes of tempo dropped in, with 2 minutes of rest in between the tempos. Before we started the run, we did a new warm up routine that involve nonstop drills and running. I actually really liked it. We ran for the first time this summer on grass during the tempos, and ended up going a little slower. 7:20 for the first tempo, and 7:24 for the second tempo. The heat and humidity definitely hit me today, and I was sweating like crazy. Overall it was a harder run, but much needed. Afterwards we did 50 push ups and 50 sit ups, then I came home and did my PT exercises and a 10 minute core workout and 10 minute arm workout. I ran with Gill today during the tempos, and we really pushed each other during the workout.

Nice recovery day after yesterday. The weather here has still been ridiculously warm, and it is not going to be getting any cooler. Heat resistance training is totally on. Went at 8:30 pace with lots of construction going on downtown, but ran on a few new trails I never knew existed. I did Muay Thai later in a gym with no air conditioning with Margy, and it was soooo hot. Also, I learned how uncoordinated I am. I also went biking later on in the evening because I needed to catch all the nearest Pokestops around my neighborhood.

Very difficult day. Coach told us it was supposed to be extremely easy adn recovery, but everyone was dying. We started with a 25 minute warm up, and then went straight into the workout. Sprinted up the first hill, then went distance pace for about 7 minutes. We turned around and tempoed back to the top of the hill, jogged down and repeated. I ran my best to the top of the hill and realized I was not feeling good AT ALL. I felt like I was going to pass out. I stopped and talked to Coach and a few other girls weren't feeling too hot either. It also was 90% humidity with 90 degree temps. Did a short 5 minute cool down and then did core and went to yoga after with the team. Later I volunteered for Food Gatherers. I think I might be getting sick...5 days before xc camp.

Super difficult workout on a blistering hot day at the track. We had 400 repeats, and I stayed pretty consistent with times. 90 second for the first 3, then dropped to 93 for the next three. I ran one more, and got 97, so I took one off to jog and recover, and then hopped back in and did one more to finish the set at 95. I did 93 for 2, then finished the last one at 90. Not my best workout, but I would much rather do a tempo over a track workout. Afterwards we headed off to Cedar Point.

My legs have been so sore since Thursday, so I took a recovery day today. I might even take tomorrow off, I don't know. I have been stretching and foam rolling a ton, and it still isn't helping. I hope my legs are fine for camp on Monday. Super nice day to run though, cloudy and high of 70.

First day of cross country camp, and we conquered the workout. We did a distance run with many hills and high humidity. I felt good.

Did a super short warm up, and then 5 dunes. I personally love hill workouts, but forgot how much dunes burn my lungs. My shin had been feeling super good, and hurt a little bit alter on that day.

We did parking lots today, approx 600 meters. It wasn't too bad, I stayed up toward the front the whole time. Then about the fourth one, my shin started hurting really bad when I was walking and during break. I finished my workout and it was still hurting super bad. Coach and I decided when I got back to take the weekend off.

Worked on tempo and speed work today. I did 3 .75 mile repeats, then did a lap of cool down. Went about 6:55 pace.

Did a super easy run today for the last full day at camp. Ran with another girl at a 9 min pace, I just wanted to talk to her though, not do an intense workout.

I didn't run today. My right upper shin has been killing me. It might be from lack of sleep and standing on my feet all day, but I need to get this under control before cross season. If it continues hurting, I will talk more to my Coach on Monday. For now, I am taking the weekend off because I need a break.
